Welcome

Welcome to pygmies.net, the website designed to keep you informed and in touch with Dr. Scott and Carol Kellermann. We have completely redesigned the site, so you should be able to get to the information much faster and with greater ease than before. Please feel free to come on in, wander about and check out at anything that interests you. We hope you will learn to love the Batwa people, as we do.

What's New?

Scott recently returned to Uganda and kicked off with malaria prevention training at three centers! "Malaria is the biggest killer of patients, the most common diagnosis made, and the largest drug cost at Bwindi Community Health Centre in South West Uganda... Prevention is so much better than cure, and the best way that an individual and his or her family can prevent themselves against malaria is by sleeping under an insecticide-treated bed net." Read more here.

Who are the Batwa Pygmies?

Scott and Carol have produced a professional quality video about the Batwa pygmies and their work in Uganda and you can view it from the site. There is also a brief history of the Batwa with a bibliography. We now have a link to The Kellermann Foundation. The About page is full of information about the Kellermanns, the Batwa pygmies, opportunities to work with the Kellermanns and related resources, including what you will need to bring (Word / PDF).

Language

Volunteers have requested that we provide some Rukiga language helps, so we have a provided a short course. The course may be downloaded in either Word format or PDF.

Journal

The regular postings of news and information from the Kellermanns are now presented in the form of a journal or weblog (blog). They are regularly updated and the individual entries are linked in the navigation bar on the right side of the Journal page.

Visiting the Kellermanns

Perhaps you are sensing the call to Uganda and work with the Batwa. Check out the About page, where you will find all kinds of information about Uganda, the Batwa and working there with Carol and Scott. There are instructions about what to bring, what injections you will need, malaria prevention and other useful tidbits.
